Ellis Tech Policies

  • Academic Uniform Policy

    All students are expected to arrive at school each day in the required school uniform and remain in uniform until dismissal at 2:10 p.m. Separate uniforms are required for academic classes, ninth-grade exploratory, career and technical education (trade), and physical education.

    General Expectations

    • Hats should be kept in student lockers at all times.
    • Ripped, torn, or clothing with holes is not permitted at any time, including on dress-down days.
    • Shirts, hats, belts, and other clothing with logos or insignia are not allowed unless they are approved Ellis Tech apparel.

    Academic Shirts

    Students in grades 9–12 must wear an official Ellis Tech polo or dress shirt purchased through the approved vendor. Shirts are available in black, navy blue, and white with short- or long-sleeve options.

    T-shirts, including those with the Ellis Tech logo, are not permitted except during approved dress-down or spirit days.

    Academic Pants

    Students may wear:

    • Black, navy blue, or khaki casual pants
    • Walking-length shorts
    • Skirts no more than two inches above the knee
    • Capri pants
    • Black leggings that are not overly tight or revealing
    • Jeans, cargo pants, and sweatpants are not permitted during the academic cycle.

    Footwear

    Closed-toe, closed-heel sneakers are recommended.

    The following are not permitted:

    • Flip-flops
    • Backless shoes
    • Open-toe shoes
    • Crocs
    • Heelys
    • Slippers
    • Any footwear that marks floors or creates a safety hazard

    Outerwear

    Coats and jackets should be stored in lockers during the school day.

    Approved Ellis Tech outerwear—including fleece jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, and vests—may be worn during academics, provided an Ellis Tech uniform shirt is worn underneath and the school logo remains visible.

    Hooded sweatshirts:

    • Only approved Ellis Tech hoodies may be worn during academics.
    • Hoods must remain down while inside the building.
    • Non-uniform hoodies are not permitted over or under the uniform shirt.

    Physical Education Uniform

    Students must wear the required Ellis Tech physical education uniform during gym class only. Gym clothing may not be worn during academic classes.

    Ninth Grade Exploratory Uniform

    Ninth-grade students are required to purchase and wear an Ellis Tech exploratory T-shirt.

    During exploratory shop classes, students must wear:

    • Exploratory T-shirt
    • Jeans without holes or tears
    • Work boots

    The exploratory uniform may continue to be worn throughout ninth grade during the trade cycle. Students are not required to purchase a permanent trade uniform until tenth grade.

    Career and Technical Education (Trade) Uniform

    Each trade program provides its own detailed uniform requirements.

    Trade uniforms, including trade sweatshirts and jackets, may only be worn during the trade cycle.

    Additional expectations include:

    • Hooded sweatshirts are not allowed in shops.
    • Hats worn in shops must be removed before entering hallways, the cafeteria, or other common areas.

    Student Identification

    Students are required to wear their school-issued ID badge at all times.

    Replacement IDs cost $5. Failure to wear the current school ID may result in disciplinary action.

    School administrators will make the final determination regarding appropriate attire when questions arise.

    Uniform Violation Protocol

    The school's goal is to help students return to compliance as quickly as possible while minimizing lost instructional time. Loaner uniforms are available and washed after every use.

    Consequences for uniform violations are as follows:

    First violation

    • Conference with student
    • Parent/guardian contacted
    • Student borrows a uniform

    Second violation

    • Conference with student
    • Parent/guardian contacted
    • One administrative detention
    • Student borrows a uniform

    Third violation

    • Conference with student
    • Parent/guardian contacted
    • Two administrative detentions
    • Student borrows a uniform

    Fourth and subsequent violations

    • Conference with student
    • Parent/guardian contacted
    • Two administrative detentions
    • Referral to administration and/or parent conference
    • Student borrows a uniform

    Progressive disciplinary consequences may be assigned for continued violations.

    If a student refuses to wear a loaner uniform, a parent or guardian will be asked to bring appropriate clothing or take the student home. Students will not be permitted to remain in school out of uniform.

  • Ellis Tech is a cell phone and smart watch free environment. From the momentyou walk into the building until you walk out at the end of the day, your phone and watch are to be stored in your locker or left at home. Let's focus on learning!

    1st Offense:
    Student meets with Administration. Cell phone/ earbuds placed in the Principal's Office for the day. Parent contacted.

    2nd Offense:
    Student meets with Administration. Cell phone/earbuds placed in the Principal's Office for the day. Detention assigned. Parent contacted.

    3rd Offense:
    Student meets with Administration. Cell phone/earbuds placed in the Principal's Office for the day. Student assigned 90 minutes of SAIL
    Parent contacted.

    4th Offense:
    Student meets with Administrat ion. Cell phone/earbuds placed in the Principal's Office for the day. Parent meeting scheduled. Student
    placed on technology restriction plan.
